Base Digitale Group’s value: a shared vision and strong synergies. Piero Firpo discusses ATS’s entry into BDG.

1. What are the reasons that led ATS to join the group?

We share a common vision. Focused on innovation as a driver for creating new sustainable development opportunities, as well as having identified a growth opportunity for the company and for all the people belonging to the group. The exchange of knowledge and skills between teams can favor the development of new skills and the enrichment of professional skills.
Our business technology company considers the development and continuous improvement of its human and technological components and skills as a fundamental priority to respond to the challenges of contemporary times and to accompany customers to a higher level of competitiveness. We believe we have found in Base Digitale and the SeSa group the further impetus to achieve these objectives with a sharing of values and skills that represent a solid starting point for achieving further future goals.

2. Can you already see the first synergies with the other professional skills and expertise within the group?

The identified synergies are among the reasons for our participation in the Group. ATS’s entry into Base Digitale creates interesting developments that can generate new value for customers.
In the Capital Market area, our solutions and platforms for supporting trading and investment decision making will be able to enrich the value proposition of BDG’s finance area to create an advanced integrated, modular and hyper-automated front-to-back ecosystem, capable of covering the functional needs of the entire industry: sell-side, buy side, proprietary trading and wealth management.
The combination of technological know-how and vertical business skills then gives new life to Base Digitale Group to favor the digital transformation of Banks, Financial Intermediaries and Companies. A concrete example is our ability to develop Artificial Intelligence solutions applied to the Capital Market business, but not only.

3. What does the digital transformation we are experiencing mean to you?

The digital transformation of organizations is first and foremost a cultural rather than a technological one; it primarily invests in the mindset of top management, who must be fully aware that current digital technologies have exponential potential. In other words, they call for a convinced redesign of new organizational and operational models that are non-hierarchical, collaborative, fluid and interconnected in processes to overcome the inevitable operational latencies and, even more worrying, decision-making latencies.

We started 30 years ago responding to simple automation needs. It was a totally different world, with very different technologies and IT infrastructures (there were faxes, now there is 5G).
Digital technology has made giant strides in the last ten years and we are in the era of Hyper-automation, which represents a process of absolute digitization, a process that aims to innovate the technological infrastructure of our society.
We are witnessing an epochal change that involves society first and foremost and the way we live, but above all the business organization, the way we work and, even more deeply, production processes. If by automation, at a more elementary level, we mean a technology that automatically performs a task without human intervention, by hyper-automation we mean an ecosystem based on automation. It is a complex evolution that requires skills in various technologies and knowledge of business processes.

The IT we have seen in recent decades, when well implemented, has given greater efficiency and operational speed, digital as a cultural approach stimulates us to generate innovation, that is, the ability to create and transfer value to end customers, thus increasing the competitive advantage of the company that innovates.
